Fall came in with a few showers, but was welcomed with lower temps! The highs in the 70’s for the weekend energized this girl, and got me outside cleaning up some flower beds and getting some more fall decorations started. I haven’t bought any pumpkins yet, but wanted to try my hand at styling an urn with fall leaves and such. I used as inspiration the urn from Pinterest:
So, after a quick trip to Michael’s and a shop through my yard for branches, I moved the still lush fern out of my urn and put my spin on it:
After the temps stay low, I’ll add some pumpkins and gourds to the porch. I also have an old metal scrolled buggy – well, it’s on loan from Carrie – and I’d like to dress it up like the buggy below:
Update on those efforts later. By the time I get all these things done, it will be time to decorate for Christmas! Boy, do I have some ideas for that…….!
As I’ve told you, Fall is my very favorite season! The nights this weekend have been in the upper 50’s and the days the upper 70’s and low 80’s. What a blessing to my heart is this season. I have more energy, I live inside and out, and just thoroughly enjoy life more. This weekend my chores came more easily, mixed in with pure enjoyment – I’ve swept all the chewed up nuts and leaves off the deck, washed my car, ran errands, did laundry, sat on that somewhat clean deck, spent time with my girls, enjoyed new recipes and had a delicious dinner prepared by them, babysat the Grand dogs, washed a few windows, took a nap, shopped a little, snuggled with Mason, and did church this morning. What a wonderful weekend it has been!
I wish everyone could capture those moments of pure blessings – and your blessings probably look totally different than mine, but I try to hold onto a few moments to get me through the real world that will come hurtling at me at 4:00 in the morning. I hope you have blessings that bring you bliss and I hope you keep them in your heart for some of those difficult days!
Other than Christmas, my very favorite time of the year is definitely fall. Always has been, always probably will be. I love the smell, the colors, the sounds, the chill in the air. Today is September 1, Labor Day is tomorrow and fall didn’t let me down one bit…….when I walked out this morning, it was cool and drizzly. The air was thinner, the birds were more mellow, and I could just imagine the crumbling leaves turning red, orange, and yellow. Now, for those of you who think I’m rushing things – you’re absolutely right! But who really cares anyway??!! With all this fall energy, I started saying goodbye to summer and replacing it with fall decorations:
From the summer hydrangeas that have been so plentiful in my yard…..
Replaced by the grapevine pumpkin and fall leaves.
The sea shells filling the glass jars, replaced by pine cones and fall leaves, stems and gourds.
I stained a wooden crate, put candles in Mason jars, and covered the squares with moss I bought at JoAnn’s. I topped them off with burlap ribbon and I plan to light the candles in the fall. The whole project was less than $20.00 and can be easily changed for the season.
Of course, Fall also includes Halloween, so a plate that I pulled out will be put back up until then…..but I love the BOO sticker!
I changed the summer basket on my front door to a fall wreath that I’ve used for a number of years. I added burlap to the wreath this year, but I’ve added so much to it over the years, I may need to reinforce the door to hold it some day! I keep thinking that I’ll start a new one, but when I took it out, I just couldn’t throw it away!
I’ll wait until it’s much cooler to decorate outside, but for now, I can turn down the AC, pull out a blanket throw, light some candles, and enjoy the fall season! Hope y’all enjoy the week and get into a Fall State of Mind!
